Hi you guys!
Today I want to talk about something that is very important to me…. doing what you love and truly LOVING what you do!
I have noticed a few things since I started working with nails, for instance it’s very easy to get sucked in to a world where time and money is all that matters. And sure… it’s important, I mean, we need money to stay alive right 😉 But there are other ways to get there than pushing yourself to take in 20 customers a day, cutting corners to save time, because trust me… it will suck all the fun out of the work you once loved and it will definitely show in the work that you do!
Hey, I’m not pointing fingers or telling anyone how to run their business but for me that is just not an option, my work is my passion and I made a decision quite early on that I will not compromise my work to save time.
It’s not always easy though, clients can sometimes question both the amount of time and the price, some of them just want a “quick fix”, in and out in under an hour for a cheap penny and that’s fine, there are places where you can get that, just not with me.
I make sure that I have enough time with every client to make their nails as perfect as they can be, I put my heart and soul in to every set and my clients really appreciate that. It’s also a very relaxed atmosphere for me to work in and I can calmly wave goodbye to one client before the next one gets in which make them feel very special and prioritized.
For this to work I raised my prices a bit, not much but enough to cover the time spent on each client and here’s the thing – they are more than willing to pay for that extra effort they get every time. My clients choose me because of that!
If you love and respect your work others will do the same, but if you start to cut corners and lower your prices to attract customers that’s a slippery slope… Soon you’ll be overworked, underpaid and sick of clients always asking for more 🙁 So please, remember why you love this job and make sure to keep that passion alive!
And if you are struggling this is my advice:
•Don’t rush! Make sure you have enough time for each client. Trust me, both you and your client will appreciate that you have time to perfect her/his nails!
•Don’t be afraid to charge your worth! This can be difficult but as I said earlier, if you respect your work so will your clients.
There is actually a blog post here on Moonflair, by content crew member Helene, about just that. She has some great inputs so you should definitely check that out!
•You decide how to run your business, not your clients! Let’s face it.. they can be very demanding sometimes and many still believe the dusty old saying “the customer is always right” to be true… but we know better, don’t we?! 😉 Be very clear with your “rules” and don’t compromise too much, more often then not that will only lead to confusion and misunderstandings and you will most likely be on the loosing end.
•Most important of all: Be Creative! Keep playing and trying new things, get inspired on social media, meet other nail techs and share your passion. Take classes, follow live streams and don’t stop challenging yourself to evolve!
Keep doing what you love and keep LOVING what you do! ❤️
Remember that the girls in the content crew are never far away, always aiming to inspire You! We do live streams every Monday at Moonflair’s Facebook page and soon there will be online classes available as well, so keep a look out, good things are coming 😉
Lots of love!
