Now it’s finally time for me, Erica, to take over Moonflair’s blog again and this time I would like to talk about something that is really close to my heart and that I have worked with for almost my entire life, customers and customer care! How do you get the clients you want? And how do you get them to stay with you year after year?
Working with only the clients that suits you is a must for having fun at work (if you’re asking me). To be genuinely interested in your clients will create a friendship that neither you nor they want to be without. But how do you find these clients?
Start by thinking about who you think your dream client is. It does not have to be a real client, but maybe a mix of your favorite clients? Maybe you think that your dream client is a woman in her 40’s, she has a job that she enjoys, is always happy and positive, has 2 slightly older children, has quite flexible times, likes to go to the spa but also likes to go boating and play golf. Her favorite color is pink and she has a good economy. She lives in the area where the salon is located and she spends most of her time in the same area.
Once you have figured out who your dream client is, it’s time to do everything for that client.
For example:
- Marketing
Since your dream client is in the immediate area, good ideas can be to share flyers in the mailboxes nearby, to always have an attractive shop window that is redesigned regularly and to have a sandwich board that is visible when you drive by.
- Furnishings
Since your dream client likes to go to the spa, it can be a good idea to decorate in soft, calm colors, use calm music and feel free to skip the radio in the salon.
- Pricing
Your dream client has a good economy and therefore I would recommend to rather raise than lower prices. Low prices can scare off your dream client as she is happy to pay for quality. But this is also important in other aspects, everything in the salon should be of a high quality, the products you use and sell, the Swarovski crystals you attach to her nails and the coffee you offer her.
This is a method that you can apply to everything you do in the salon which will attract just the client you want + a whole lot of more lovely women (and some men).
Then I also want to throw you some other tips that I know you know but that are so important that I can not write about dream clients without mentioning them.
- Nobody wants to go to a dirty salon! Cleaning is a must in this type of business and I myself have visited salons that did not seem to think it is so important and I ran out of there. If it’s not clean in the salon, how clean are the tools they use on me? No thanks.
- Try to be a client! It is very useful to be a client yourself, you learn what you like, what you want and do not want to do in your salon and you see things that you do not think about as a nail tech, such as what is the client sitting and watching during their treatment? Do they look at a messy corner of the salon or at a nice product shelf that makes them shop a bit before they leave?
- Serve good coffee and feel free to offer a piece of chocolate, it is such a simple thing but which gives such a good impression. We actually hear from new clients that the person who recommended them to us told us that our coffee is fantastic.
Hope you find some of my tips helpful and that they can help you find your dream clients! Follow me on @ericamattsvag and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
